California Trip Permit

California requires a trip permit for out-of-state commercial vehicles not registered under the California IRP. This applies to vehicles over 26,000 lbs. combined GVW, or any vehicle with 3 or more axles regardless of weight.

Who needs it: Required for: (1) vehicles with combined GVW over 26,000 lbs., or (2) any vehicle with 3 or more axles — if not registered under the California IRP apportionment.
Fuel Permit

Temporary fuel permits for trucks not registered under IFTA making trips into or through California.

Who needs it: Required for 2-axle trucks over 26,000 lbs. or 3+ axle trucks of any weight not registered under IFTA.
Oversize / Overweight Permit

California requires permits for any load exceeding legal size or weight limits on state highways.

Who needs it: Required when height exceeds 13'6", width exceeds 8'6", trailer length exceeds 48', or gross weight exceeds 80,000 lbs.
